How your skin works. The biggest organ of your body is your skin. Your skin is flexible tissue that holds your bones, organs and fluids together. There are different layers of your skin, the outer most layer is called the Stratum Corneum. This layer acts as your primary barrier to chemicals and other things floating around in the air. The Stratum Corneum is only semi-permeable, meaning it will allow some things to pass through it, and has pores which act as a pathway to your core.
